2018 Fall Bucket List

Now that Fall is finally here, we thought it might be fun to share some entertaining things to do in your city and in ours! Grab your friends and make you own bucket list, or use ours as a starting point to kick-off October!

1. Plan your Halloween costume!

One of our favorite to-do list items for October is choosing a Halloween costume!  You can find inspiration from current events, movies, or books. Or, reach back into your childhood and be your favorite Disney character.  Each year we have fun wishing you Happy Halloween on Instagram as one of our favorite females! Check back on October 31st to see who’s saying “Happy Halloween” this year.   And don’t wait until the last minute to choose YOUR Halloween alter-ego!

2. Go to an outdoor concert, and bring a picnic too!

Fall is one of the best times to be outside, and one of our favorite things to do is pack a picnic and take it to the park. And if your town has an outdoor venue that hosts concerts, that’s even better!  The Dallas Arboretum’s  Cool Thursday Concerts are a fun way to enjoy the Fall weather.

3. Go to a football game and tailgate party!

In the South, Fall literally means football season!!  So, it’s placement on the October bucket list is undeniable. Dress in your team colors, pack up some soft drinks in your cooler and throw your favorite adult beverage into our Wine Tote. You’re ready to cheer for your team!

4. Visit a pumpkin patch or your local farmers’ market!

One of our favorite things about Fall is decorating the front porch.  We like to do a mix of pumpkins, and fall flowers. Shopping for decorations at the Farmer’s market has become a habit because it’s a one stop shop for pumpkins, gourds, and mums! Plus, one of the best things about farmers’ markets is the samples! You can sip on a Fall spiced coffee or tea while trying out yummy samples of local apples tarts, caramel apples, and homemade jams.

5. Go to your State Fair!

Fall is State Fair time and no one does it bigger than Texas! Open for one month every year, a trip to the State Fair of Texas is a tradition for all generations.  Dallas locals are trained from childhood to love it!  School students are given a free ticket and a day off from school to attend the fair each year! This fun Fall day is lovingly called "Fair Day”. Our must-do things on Fair Day include eating a Fletcher’s Corn Dog, watching a dog show, taking a lap through the craft and animal exhibit halls and of course, a photo with Big Tex!

Each State Fair has its own unique traditions. Go check yours out!

6. Go to a food festival!

Heading into fall means a whole new crop of seasonal food (or beer) festivals to enjoy before the cold weather sends us inside for the winter. If you don’t live in a town that hosts a food festival, why not pack up your Belmont bag and Nantucket tote and plan a road trip to the nearest city that does? It’s the perfect excuse for a weekend getaway, plus its a great way to see and enjoy some beautiful fall foliage on the road! Here’s where to find 12 of the best food festivals happening this fall.

7. Celebrate apple season by baking an apple pie!

We wish we could also pick the apples for the pie, but in our neck of the woods this is not an option.  So, we will be satisfied with baking (and eating) apple pie. There are so many recipes to choose from, but we recommend this classic version from, fellow Texan, Joanna Gaines new cookbook,  Magnolia Table: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering.  You may also like this Apple Crisp with Oat Topping from AllRecipes.com.
